Environmental Education Professional Program - Bregenz, Austria

The Kentucky Institute for International Studies Environmental Education Professional Program in Bregenz, Austria presents a unique, cross-cultural experiential learning opportunity for teachers. In the tradition of John Dewey, teachers will experience a culture where sustainable practices are a way of life and the environment is an integral part of society. They will then reflect upon those experiences and will develop a plan to incorporate sustainablity and environment based education (EBE) into their curriculum. The cost for the program is as follows:


  • $2795 program fee, w/o air fare (Includes; 2 meals most days, lodging in private homes, most excursions when in Austria).
  • $1400 airfare.
  • Approximately, $250 - $300 for a weekend trip to Munich, Germany. Cost estimate includes; rail travel, 2 nights lodging, and breakfast.
  • Optional; 3 hours of graduate credit through Murray State University.
  • A limited number $1000 grants are available for participating middle school teachers through the EKU Center for Middle School Academic Acheivement.
