Maywoods Wildlife Remote Camera

The Center for Environmental Education has placed 3 remote heat and motion sensitive cameras at various locations at Maywoods, EKU's Environmental Education Laboratory in Rockcastle and Garrard Counties. These cameras were purchased through a SGA Technology Fee grant.
Two cameras will automatically update pictures of wildlife via the internet and can be accessed through the following link: Buckeyecam.
The third camera is in a more remote location and photographs will be periodically uploaded to our photo gallery at picasaweb and updated periodically over the year. Click on main picture to view all photos in the gallery.

The photographs from the remote cameras are intended to allow students to make and check predictions about the wildlife that may inhabit Maywoods. Students can record their predictions and what animals are photographed by the cameras in a journal. The date, time, and moon phase is imprinted on each remote camera photograph, which students may find helpful when making their journal entries. Teachers can follow up this activity with a field trip to Maywoods. For reservation information; click on Maywoods or contact the EKU-Division of Natural Areas, 859-622-1476.

A few examples of lesson plans have been developed to be used in conjunction with the remote cameras . Listed below is a lesson plan to be conducted while at Maywoods and the second lesson plan is to be used as a follow-up lesson after visiting Maywoods. The second lesson plan may be used as a stand alone lesson, as well.
